In this phase, we are designing the building as additional to the exist case study from phase 1,
an additional part or recreate the case study building itself by using some of the key elements from our case study. Which I decided to design an additional building to the Carpenter Center(my case study building).

- The idea of using the ramp as the main meaning of the building.
- 5 points of architecture.                                     
 - The building consist of two main parts.

These are my case study model of the site, which includes the case study building, Carpenter Center
the left bottom one in the first picture and on the right is where I will place my designed building
on, so basically I will place my building right across the street near my case study building, because
in my building as an additional building it consist of programs which related to the Carpenter Center.
Just saying, my building in these pictures are only the first design of it not the final one.





These are my hand drawings of the final design of my building, In the first picture is the plans and sections in A1
size, and in the second picture is the site plan in A2 size. The whole idea of my building is by using the key elements
from the Carpenter Center, I try to design the building with the programs in related to the case study. I separate my building into two main parts, the first part is designing on the key word of 'twist' but slowly from the foundation as first floor, second floor then starts the turn on third floor to match the north light then I twist the forth and fifth floor some more to create the interaction and overhanging space, This part is where students, teachers, and staffs will be using which consist of several programs such as the working space like Studios, Activity public area, the Rooftop garden, the Fabrication lab and the painting and sprays area, also the researching parts like the Computer room, and the Library. Also there are storage room for students to store their models and the actual store which will sell materials for students, in addition I add the garage space for easier in travelling purpose also it does connect with the street, take that as consideration as the idea comes from the villa savoye, from the same architect. The second part of the building is the ramp part which the initial idea is the 'Ribbon Ramp' which is the term I use to describe this idea. It is basically I using the ramp to wrapping around and going inside the main building. After a lot of thinking I merge the idea of having several things occurs along the ramp and the result is I create a journey path along this 'Ribbon Ramp', so first(using the plans for more understanding!) starts off from the first floor from the lobby. In this part the ramp act as the exhibition space which shows the work from students having the glass wall allowing natural light to illuminating the space, along the path to the east of the building brise-soleil added instead of glass wall to prevent direct sunlight. Passing the turn into the second floor the ramp penetrate through the building both side of the ramp is glass walls allowing the guest to observe the programs inside the building, in addition the photo shooting room's wall is black film to create the flashing effect just to make things a little bit more interesting and also telling what is going on inside the room. Now on the turn again with one side glass wall to the west side of the building it allow the guest to see outside the building to the street and also seeing the Carpenter Center from the third floor height, passing the turn into the third floor, this space is sharing between the guest and students, it is the storage room also act as the exhibition space create interaction between students and guests, Now the ramp will leading to the fifth floor passing through the forth floor with glass wall on both side allowing guests to observing through, when reaching the fifth floor it also reaching the combination of shape circle and rectangle, the circle part is where the ramp is and due to the twisted floor it allows the guests to look down on to the rooftop garden on forth floor seeing students working, walking and several activities going on. after that to the ending of the journey where the ramp will bring the guests to the first floor, going through the spiral cylinder ramp from fifth to forth floor into allow another observing of the program then create interaction with students on the rooftop garden crossing it to another spiral cylinder ramp with whole glass wall envelope allowing guests to looking around as they are going down to the lobby, the starting point of the journey on first floor.

This project phase is allowing us to design a game or a toy that adapted the concept or several key elements from the building we analysed from the first phase, which in my case is the Carpenter Center by Le corbusier. The building is mainly about 'movement' since le corbusier has interest in automobiles and adapted it to his work, for example the ramp, There you have a start point and end point by using this ramp you will gain the flowing momentum. Comparing with stairs which the momentum is step stop and step this ramp give you the all the way through momentum like an escalator. Also the perspective and orientation of the building, how you see things inside the building with the ramp. Now, these two things are the key element that I adapt to my design of the game.  



I choose to make a board game, this game is kind of like a racing game where the objective or the goal is to reach the end point. There are two players required for this game, each will receive five pieces of different characters with different skills and they will have to compete each other to reach the end point. The design of the map or the boards is by taking several unique elements from Le corbusier building and put them together like to mimic his building in a way, for example the pilotis to support each platform, the platform that can be design freely due to the fact that the pilotis already remove the fix wall and by comparing to checker or chess, where two players must sit on different side of the board, Disgame makes you move around the map because these pieces move on rails thats mean both player have to share the same rails for these pieces and because there are five floors with different rail pattern, the way these characters move will also change so, it force both players to adjust them self into different position around these boards which mean both players will gain different view from disgame together. Now you see its kind of related to the perspective and orientation thing I took from Carpenter Center.

My main case study building is Carpenter center by Le Corbusier, which located at Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. This image is all nine plates of my project analysing the building, thoughts, concepts and idea behind it. The following images are each plates from this image listed in order.

This first plate is a2 hand drawing diagrams with some descriptions, on the left are diagrams of the location of the building talking about the position and development of the building, where it located in between Quincy and Prescott st. and from the entrance from Harvard yard and sidewalk lead to the twisted in position of the building. On the right are the plans of the building also the abstract one telling the thought where le corbusier is the man who obsessed with auto-mobiles and apply the idea to his building in several ways. In addition this building is the largest 35mm films collection of the New England region.


This is the second and third plates hand drawing of the perspective section and the section of the building and ramp, which is my main interest. The perspective section shows in details of each room, floors and ramp it cut through. The section show the different between two sides of the building and ramp where it cut.


This is the fourth plate talking about the architecture from the same architect, The Villa Savoye and showing the drafting plans and section of this building with highlight on the ramp of this building which is it's main circulation with nice amount of text description.


This is the fifth and the sixth plates, showing drafting plans of Villa Savoye and Carpenter Center in comparing scale. Those colors shows the 5pt architecture of le corbusier in comparing between two architecture also showing them by highlight these elements on several images.


This is the seventh plate showing images of several architectures comparing the purpose of ramps, as mentioned ramps are my special interest as well as the details of each architects added in several text descriptions.



This is the eighth and ninth plates showing the drafting plans of each architecture from the previous plate highlighted in yellow on there ramps together with several images also highlighted to comparing in design and purposes.
