Jewish Center for Holocaust Memorial

The Jewish center is located adjacent to the existing Holocaust memorial in Berlin. The DNA I extracted from Zvi Hecker's Jewish School is form and intersection. He is well known for the strength in the forms of his buildings which is what I applied to the Jewish center.
First extending the grids of the existing memorial overlaying the free space on the site and experiment on how the forms can be created. In the memorial includes an existing underground museum which is where i started the proposal design. Following the extended grids; I've connected the underground museum to my new building. Later on, following the methodology of Zvi Hecker, I intersect the extended grids with the site grids (roads and buildings in the site area) which then became petal shaped structures to emphasize the transaction of the structure and form of the Jewish school.
I put emphasis on the synagouge, which is on the second floor of the building. This room will be facing the memorial which gives it a powerful view. Also includes elevated seats to provide viewing sight for the people attending.

Case Study:

Heinz-Galinski School Berlin
(Jewish School Berlin)
Zvi Hecker

Zvi Hecker is well known for its emphasis on geometry and asymmetry. In this phase we are required to decode our given institute and extract those concepts to later on develop a game/toy from those architectural aspects.

Operation : Form, Intersection
Resulting Condition : Continuity

Radi-connect

I first choose to develop the ideas of forms and intersections. Using triangle blocks as the main form and connectors to connect the triangles to perform a radiating pattern.

First attempt of developing a study model. Using the connectors to connect the different sizes of triangles (3 different sizes) horizontally and vertically to form a dome-like structure as a result and another objective is to be able to randomly connect the pieces following the radiation of the shape.

Manual

There are 3 proportionally different triangle shapes which will be joined by three different connectors. The user will have to solve the pattern in order to put the correct pieces into the triangle and complete the puzzle. Each connector has a certain way to be put in. It is recommended to be built floor by floor.

Heinz Galinski Schule - Zvi Hecker
( Jewish School, Berlin, 1995)

The Jewish School Berlin designed by a Polish born, Israeli Architect, Zvi Hecker. Well known for its emphasis on geometry and asymmetry. This building has strength in it's complex and extreme form with intersections collide the flow of each building. The building was influenced from a sunflower seed which the building is separated into
5 petals with a corridor (snake) intersecting through the building.

The Matrix consist of 9 plates. The first 2 rows are case studies on Zvi Heckers projects. Last row are styles of buildings concept related to the main concept of the first project.

Whole
The operation of the Jewish School is Form and Intersection.
Resulting Condition is Connectivity & Continuity.

Part
Scaling down into the building; focusing on the different intersections in each floor, define form if the building and the courtyards created between each petal.

Detail
Revealing interior views of the intersections occur inside of the building in each floor. Focusing into details of the interior such as where light intersects inside.

Architect - Zvi Hecker

Examples of his well known architectures. The forms of each building is very unique and strong in geometry. His works are common in memoriality. The forms and shapes of the geometry is very symbolic and has meaning and function behind every form. Creating interior spaces for the program the building was meant to made for.

Style
The last row reveals architectures that are similar in style and concept of the building which is form and intersection. Each building I've chose is related to one or the other concept. This shows in result that there is a reason behind the spaces the forms intersects and create.
