SINCE THE FIRST PHASE, WHERE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN EXPLORING ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTERISTIC THROUGH ARCHITECTURAL LANGUAGE, LEARNING THE TECHNIQUE AND THE IDEOLOGY FROM THIER ARCHITECT IN ORDER TO DEEPLY UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS OF DESIGN: THEREFORE, IN THIS PHASE ALLOWS STUDENT TO EXPRESS THE IDEA AND DESIGN THEIR OWN BUILDING THAT HAS THE SIMILAR SCENARIO OR THE CONCEPTS.


KENGO KUMA
"ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS JAPANESE ARCHITECTS, WHO INTRODUCES THE INNOVATION IN USES OF NATURAL MATERIALS AND THE CONCEPT OF ENHANCING  ARCHITECTURE RATHER THAN DOMINATING."



FROM KENGO KUMA'S LANGUAGE WHICH FOCUSING ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN, THE COMBINATION BETWEEN THE TECHNOLOGY AND NATURE BY MERGING ARCHITECTURE INTO IT.


"UNDER ONE ROOF" WAS THE PROJECT FOR THE EPFL ARTLAB AT EPFL CAMPUS IN LAUSSANE SWITZERLAND. IT WAS DESIGNED IN DYSFUNCTIONAL SPACE AS A PURPOSE TO CHANGE IT INTO CAMPUS'S COMMON AND THE PEDESTRIAN WHICH CONNECT THE STUDENT RESIDENT AND THE CAMPUS TOGETHEr, FOR STUDENTS AND UNIVERSITY STAFFS. THE DESIGN WAS MAINLY FOCUS ON THE LOCAL CONTEXT; THE SHAPE WAS SENSIBLY DESIGN TO FIT WITH LAUSSANE'S  LANDSCAPE AND ALSO USE SWITZERLAND LOCAL MATERIALS AS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE.



FROM THE RESEARCH, EPFL INSTITUTE IS ONE OF THE BEST INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WHERE MANY STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD COME TO LEARN A NEW THINGS AND EXPERIENCING THE WAY OF LIFE.MANY FACILITIES HAD BEEN PROVIDED, HOWEVER, MOST OF THE COURSES IS TEACHING IN FRENCH THEREFORE MOST OF THE FOREIGNER HAVE TO TAKE TIME TO UNDERSTAND.

FOR THIS REASON, THE NEW BUILDING WAS "CULTURAL AND INFORMATION CENTER" WHERE MAINLY DESIGNED TO FIX THE PROBLEMS AND ALSO ADD SOME EXTRA SPACE IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE FACILITY FOR STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE AN EFFICIENT LEARNING.

THE DESIGN ACTUALLY TOOK PLACE IN THE SAME LOCATION AS THE ADDITION FROM THE ORIGINAL. FIRSTLY, THE DESIGN HAS BEEN CATEGORISED INTO SEVERAL FOCUSING IDEA, FOR INSTANCE; CIRCULATION, SOLID&VOID, VISION & ARRANGEMENT AND MORE.

IN THE FINAL DESIGN, THE IDEA WAS TO PROVIDE A SPACE FOR STUDENTS TO SEEK FOR MORE KNOWLEDGE AND ESPECIALLY FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS TO DESTROY THE BARRIER BETWEEN LANGUAGE IN ORDER TO EFFIECNTlY UNDERSTAND THE LESSON. THE APPEARANCE OF THE DESIGN BORROWED THE IDEOLOGY OF KENGO KUMA BY USING THE LOCAL MATERIAL AND PROVIDE MUCH VISION AS POSSIBLE TO BLEND THE BUILDING TO NATURE.

AS THE FIGURE 5. SHOW THE STRUCTURE OF THE BUILDING, IT IS SHOWN THAT THE CONCEPT OF KENGO KUMA STILL REMAIN.

AS THE THE PROGRAM WAS WISELY ARRANGED FROM PUBLIC AND PRIVATE BOTTOM TO TOP RESPECTIVELY IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE SPECIFIC CIRCULATION. ON THE SECOND FLOOR THERE ONLY CLASS ROOM AND LECTURE HOW WHICH ONLY ONLY STUDENT TO USE, WHILE LIBRARY AND THE CAFE WERE OPEN PUBLICLY . THEREFORE, THE DESIGN PROVIDE THE CONVENIENCE FOR THE USER.
