CASE STUDY:
ROY AND DIANA VAGELOS EDUCATIONAL CENTER
ARCHITECT: DILLER SCOFIDIO + RENFRO
" The first row of the matrix consist of the drawings of : WHOLE, PART, AND DETAIL of the vagelos educational center"
The Vagelos Education Center is a medical institution consist of a 100,000-square-foot, 14-story glass tower that incorporates technologically advanced classrooms, collaboration spaces, and a modern simulation center to reflect how medicine is taught, learned, and practiced in the 21st century.

WHOLE
What I focus on the whole drawing is the way to circulate from the first floor to the 14th floor with only the use of an interconnected stair. As you can see that I rid all the closings and the wall in order to show the walkway the section (highlight in orange) is the walkway and the axon is the same information I extract to make it more clear.
PART
In the part drawing I focus on the studying space called the "Student Common" which is located on the 11th floor of the study cascade in which the things I highlight here are the boundaries that are defined by the material changing in the space and as you can see I highlight some objects that are also defining boundaries which is the chair and the chair inside the space can be movable to create different boundaries.
DETAIL
For the detail I will be talking about the multi-function of a level changed structure which mostly in the Vagelos educational center are stairs, in the drawings I show how the stair both function as a walkway to walk up as normal stairs and as a space to sit and study at the right of the walkway this space also serve as a informal meeting space.

The whole drawing of the second row talks about the same circulation by the use of stairs in an interconnected way.
The part focus on the movable and flexible object in this case the roof of "THE SHED" which can be move to create a boundaries for a public space.
The detail drawings talk about the multifunctional of the use of a level changing structure in which the first row talks about two ways of function however in this drawing there are some with more than two functions.
