Earn Lalipat Sirirat : Project 1.3

Earn Lalipat Sirirat
Project 1.3
Peter Fisher

Fraternal Twin
Define an institute’s alternative identity
within the vocabulary, rules and limits
defined in previous phase work.
Explore DNA aquired through
architectural language, and develop
a systematic program

Overall

Massing Model

Can be divided into 3 main keywords:

Hierarchy
-play with the height of floor
-extend parts to the front
-subtracting space
-inportance of room

Symmetry
-Equal sides
-Aligned with old building
-Balance

Clash between old/new
-less strict
-contemporary
-materiality
-curvy shape

Massing Model 1 - High Zygosity
High symmetry - looks same similar to old building,
mostly old material but program inside is
very hightech.

Massing Model 2 - Medium Zygosity
High Hierarchy - the form looks different now.
play with how the room are arranged, how
it is extended out - more important.
Mix of old and new material.

Massing Model 3 - Low Zygosity
More use of new material - the use of
curvy modern shape. Program inside is
very strict, contrasting with the modern
form outside.

The site is the same as my case study building.
The new building is located at the back of the old building.

Program
Old building - museum telling the story of education
in the city during late 19th and early 20th century
Traditional museum - exhibits

New building - high tech museum that digs more deeply
into the histocal content of glasgow
The life of people in glasgow during world war.
Impact of technological change on society/culture
Moderm museum - interactive activity, atmospheric.

Clash Between Old and New
Use materiality and form as a way to play with
the DNA of new/old. This has been applied horizontally.

The side that is connected to the old
building uses the same material which is brick
however, the form is now changed to curvy form.
Brick - Old
Curvy form - New
The style of floor layering is also old - Pancake style

Then as it get further away from the old building to
the back, the material changes to composite panel
which is a newer material. The form is also
transformed into simple form geometry shape.
Composite Panel - New
Simple Form - Old
The style of floor layering is new - Raumplan

Symmetry
The new and old building align perfectly.
The window panel DNA from the original building
has also been expressed as a reflective material
in the new building., as well as the entrance.

The entrance has been moved to the back,
basically, the original entrance is now closed.

Hierarchy
Hierarchy has been taking part in this project
as well, it's being conveyed vertically.
The DNA has been taken directly from my case
study's educational philosophy. The idea of
the higher from the ground, the older the people
is being expressed in the new building as well.

2nd floor - knowledge/office space for older ones
1st floor - mix ture of knowledge and interactive space
Ground floor - interactive activities for small children

The circulation of the walkway (floor planning type)
is also different in each floor. The feeling of
a person would change according to it.
Corridor - strict / like a person tells you where to walk
Hall - free / you can walk anywhere you like.

2nd floor - corridor
1st floor - mixture of corridor and hall
Ground floor - hall
