MAIN STUDY CASE : EXETER LIBRARY
Exeter Library designed by Louis Kahn in 1972 is the library that represent the metaphorical idea of 'monumentality' in knowledge. The image of architecture that the academy wanted and was the brief that given to him was "a brick exterior to match the Georgian buildings of the school and an interior with the ideal environment for study"

WHOLE : This plate shows the exterior of the library with the main DNA of "monumentality" through
- Symmetry in the design : can be seen through the squared floor plans and the repetition in the facade with its 4 identical faces
- Contrast in scale between occupants and the structure : this emphasises the feeling of greatness and the experience of monumentality
PART : This plate shows the main 3 'parts' or organisation within the overall system of the library those are
- Lighting : Shows the use of natural light that connects the readers to the outside environment
- Zoning : Shows the main concept of "building-within-building" or "doughnut structure" with the brick construction in the outer ring for the readers and the concrete construction in the inner ring for the books
- Circulation : Shows both vertical and horizontal circulation
DETAIL : This plate shows the details those are DNA of this case study with pure forms, lighting, perspective, free-standing screens, materials, and scale
