Design III - Project 1.2 - Mint Ramita Yibmontasiri - Thomas Lozada

PROJECT 1.2

"PLAY GIFTS AND MANIPULATIVE"

On this phase, we were assigned to made a toy or a game
that related to our building from last phase.
We can bring the ideas or the inspirations from any part of our building.

My game got inspired from Clover House kindergarten, designed by MAD Architects
which is a home-like kindergarten with a teaching mythology "learning by playing".
I bring the idea of the shell such that using a million paper-like pieces canvas
to create a shell where children can draw and keep their memories on.
The shape of a shell comes from how children imagine when paper cover a house.
Keywords for this toys are deformation and create imagination.

The toy is named "Kontei Ni Aru" from Japanese language which means
"Basic or Fundamental". I use the idea of those paper-like pieces canvas,
but in this case using acrylic to create a puzzle and I also bring the idea of
all fundamental for children in kindergarten age (which they will mostly
learn by visual) such that colors, shapes, and balances.

In 1st method, I use the idea of primary and secondary colors.
My toy made by translucent material which when two primary colors joined together
in horizontal way, the middle spaces will shown a secondary color,
so that children can stack the next piece in horizontal way.

The strategy is to use primary then secondary then go back to primary
then secondary continue over and over to create strange shape and form,
whoever made the puzzle fall down first will lose.

The puzzle shape come from  the tangrams which is a shape that can
develop problem solving skills, logical thinking skills, create creativity
and help learning mathematic and geometry concepts.

Children can also learn about the balances because of the different sizes
of puzzle pieces. At the end, the stacked strange shape puzzles linked back
to the idea of how children imagine when the paper cover the house.

1st method

2nd method

In 2nd method, I bring the Tangrams purpose and idea to create this game.
Tangrams is a shape that can create and build any shape in geometric way.
They can play by having a small competition by copy a shape of
transformed tangram or to learn by create new shape by themselves.
The purpose is to learning by using their own imagination.
