DESIGN III_DNA_BANKK_PROJECT 1-1

PROJECT 1

PHASE 1

CASE STUDY : ROLEX LEARNING CENTER, SWITZERLAND

This building is located in EPFL campus, Lausanne, Switzerland. Designed by SANAA Japanese architect.  Main function of this building is it's a library of campus and also public space for people come and gathering with each other.

The 1st page, i'll focus on space and boundary in this building. Concept of this building is there want to create one single space that not have visual boundary but separate zone by use different of height in the space

In this diagram, there has 3 plan to show. 1st one, at the bottom, it show the visual boundary in this building like glass wall.

2nd plan is show a slope level of this building, red one is show the highest space in the building, black is show the lowest space and yellow is part of slope in the building.

3rd plan is representing a space for student, that mean the space that student use for there activity like read a book, do a project. Because this building attract many tourist, so there has a zone for public space too much.

2nd page, is talk about the ramp in the building, SANAA said they want to create a walkway that feel like walking in the forest or hiking the mountain.

But some ramp it quite useless because it take more distance. In diagram there have 2 line, red and blue, that mean red line is real distance, blue is ramp distance and bring them to compare a distance.

Last page, focus on courtyard of rolex learning center, i interesting in shape of the void like how that shape generated. i try to understand by put the perfect circle inside the void and see there generate by look the gap of that shape and circle.

SANAA PROJECT

GLASS PAVILION, OHIO, USA

Glass pavilion is building for the exhibition about art that from the glass, workshop about glass work and store for sale glass work.

Glass pavilion is other project of SANAA, that concept similar with rolex learning center which is they want to create space that not have visual boundary, but for this project space inside isn't has slope, so they use transparent wall for separate a space

For the walkway inside this building, if you can see in the plan, they design the room that not have an angle for flow circulation inside. I'm bring the concept of the shortest way to walk in the building for this page too by cut every room and reorder them to be one-way path for see the shortest distance for waking in exhibition

For the shape of each room inside is building, when put the perfect circle inside it will look more geometry form than case study because there shape it more pattern not freeform like case study.

SIMILAR PROJECT

AGADIR CONVENTION CENTER, AGADIR, MOROCCO

This project from OMA by Rem koolhaas, but this project isn't real construction, it just a competition project for new theater in Morocco

This building, if you look from the exterior, they'll look similar. This building there play with slope too. They want to create a space that, when you go inside you will feel like you walking in the forest. Things that different from case study is this building has a lot of pillar, architect said pillar will give feeling like tree in the forest.

CASA MILLA, BARCELONA, SPAIN

I choose this building because there will be the DNA of case study building by there is building that has a organic form and shape there generate by using circle
