FRATERNAL TWINS
Due to the previous project of design project 1, the case study has been developed from its identity or DNA from building into different ideally output ex. toy.
Stepping into the last phase, the task is to use the same method of decoding DNA into a building which has a shared identity.
My case study was Zollverein School by SANAA, a cuboid structural building with a punctured facade. The new building that I produce has shared the identity of the cuboid structure with continuity of facade but in the different appearance.
While the case study has a continuity of window arrangement on the facade, the new building has been designed to use a continuity of curvature on the facade and reflective material to reflect surrounding areas and harmonize itself into the landscape of Essen.
LOCATION MAP AND MASTER PLAN
This new and old building have a coordinated program that supports each other by following the master plan of Zeche Zollverein by OMA.
While the nearby area is full of art and design studio, which produce the institution of Zollverein School, the new school cooperate with Art of music that establishes a new strand of art in this area.

ISOMETRIC AND PLAN VIEW
While the case study is outstanding in the use of windows that allows the light exposure from an exterior in every side of the facade, the new building is promoted the use of shadow and solid wall that the case study had dismissed.
The programs of the new building will be differentiated by the new definition of proposing darkness into a cuboid shape of building while the floor that still allows the light exposure keep kind of similar programs from the old building.
FACADE TREATMENT
Because of the identity of the old building, the new building has kept the same DNA by promoting the continuity. This leads me to study on the treatment of a facade and the outcome is that 4 layers of the facade have been produced, which are: curvy reflective acrylic, structural skeleton, stairway, and inner shell; which are concrete and glass surface.
SECTION CUT OF NEW BUILDING
The new program will be mainly followed the old program by the room that allows the light exposure in, which are library, lecture room, cafe, lobby, and office, while the new programs in the dark room, and also soundproofing, are mainly for musical purpose, for example, music practice room, concert hall, and recession for musicians.
