Tanyaluck Kittithirapong Phase 1: Didactic DNA

Design lll
Tanyaluck Kittitirapong : Didactic DNA

Lycée Hôtelier de Lille : Caruso St John

 whole project

The project I chose to analyze is Lecee hotelier de lille in France. A school for chefs, florists , bakery , hotel. The area and buildings were basically a warehouse for FCB industrial. An industry for steelworks that hasn’t been used for a long time.

The architects found that many of the structures are not completely useless . so they try to renovate it. They have chosen the warehouse and try turning them into a new building which serves a different purpose but still preserves most of the structures.

whole / part / detail

Whole

the whole school is placed in a town called Llle in France. This town is a basically an industrial town. So it is common to have many abandoned industry site. The building is seperated into two rows.  row one is student's and teacher's domoitory. The second rows are for educational purposes. And a centre hall in the middle.

Part

the most important part of the project is happening in the centre hall,
A hall for students with a big space. The hall itself having the same old structure of the warehouse that is obviously seen when inside.

The structures are obviously shown to the people inside giving the feeling of an industry because of these steel that is shown.  It is also painted in the same colour they have used to paint the warehouse.
Detail
On details I chose to focus on patterns and colours.
On the roof top. Instead of having a single coloured roof. They have chose to
use a colorful green and blue tiles.

The truth is several of the old warehouse have this same color roof. But not all of them. But when the architect has come to work on the site they have chosen to use the same coloured roof
and use it for all of the buildings.

Focusing on buildings with the same architect, I chose Studio house , North london and Clerkenwell warehouse as an example. These buildings are not similar in physical ways or how they look. But the thing they all share is the concep of how these buildings were all renovated from an old useless structures.

Childhood museum and Museum of London. Both are located in London
focusing on big hall with a centre space. cover with easily-be-seen structures.

Having patterns as one of the buildings identity. these buildings are Childhood museum and Tate Britain Millbank. both are in UK

with the same style of designing buildings these are examples. First plate ; Tate Modern (UK) , Lacaton vassel warehouse (France)
second plate ; Lacaton vassel warehouse (France) , Tate Modern (UK)
third plate ; Day nursery in Gilslingen (Germany) , London college of Fashion
