Project 1.1 Didactic DNA
Architecture Vis-à-vis The Institute
Punnathorn Phuwichit (Saipan)
Different Institutes operate in different ways
because they believe in different worldviews, in
other words they have different DNA.
Analyzing from both an institutional and architectural
perspective of the institutes is the objective of this phase.
The Why Factory (T?F) is a global think-tank and research institute, run by MVRDV and Delft University of Technology and led by professor Winy Maas. It explores possibilities for the development of our cities by focusing on the production of models and visualisations for cities of the future.
On this first plate i was focusing on the setting of the building and how it was built. The Why Factory was built inside of the courtyard of the faculty of Architecture in Delft University. So my main concept is layering. By building an exterior in an interior and within that there's another interior.
My second plate is focusing on the flexible boundaries and activities, like because of how it was built with no wall to connect all parts together the activities in each area are varies. I separated them into formal and informal activities as you can see below.
On the third plate, the details plate, I focus on the circulation and flow that happened in the space. The smaller the space is the upper it is and less activities happened.
On these next three plate i am showing similar examples from MVRDV to support my main concept of the first three plate.
The last three plates is examples of the same concept but from different architecture. Some of them also show contrast.
The last one is a diagram showing the comparisons of all the case study showing how
different slope of the stairs can create different activities.
