Kindergarten School

SITE

New institution (Kindergarten school) will be built in the campus of
"Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile" since the surrounded
is "residential area". So it is beneficial to parent and young children since
 they don't like traveling far to get to school. 

Also, there are no disturbance such as highway, factories, urban or airport.

Kindergarten students learn differently from elementary school or university

since they need to develop in body and do activities rather than studying in classes,

 read books and take exams. Therefore, the school should have places that provided

for the specific activities rather than laboratory, auditorium or huge library.

Classroom for kindergarten are also distinct from older students since the

mood or environment in the room must open or expose, where other students can study

in closed room or a room without windows, so students will not feel bored and 

able to see outside since kindergarten will learn from everything they have seen.

BUILDING & DESIGN

Configuration for the building was divided into 3 major phrase

 library or reading area, gym and canteen.

Design of the building was designed and organized based on 

toy from phrase 2. The selected shape must follow the following rules.

- Not only most exposed or open, but also “practical and useful” 

- Horizon or long, which appropriate for classroom shape 

- Wide enough for activities space such as gym, canteen or library 

- Top of 1st floor can be used as terrace or multipurpose space

 and accessed by upper floor

WHY L-SHAPE?

The benefits on this arrangement are teachers or people inside the building

 can look after the students and  L-shape acts as mountain that giving

 a shade to the site when the Sun rotate to western side.

Minor space going to be plugged in between 3 major space.

So students can move from activities room to classroom conveniently vice versa.

Facades were installed on the north and west side and overhangs installed around the
 school since Santiago, Chile is located in  tropical zone.
So there are a lot of sunlight and heat that can affect activities and users inside.

Playground is another part that always stay with kindergarten school. 

It will be placed in the middle of L-shape.

SUNLIGHT & ACTIVITIES

In the morning when the sunlight is beneficial to people, main activities

should be expose to the outdoor. So the activities and design that based on sun

are outdoor space, playground, sport fields, plantation area or multipurpose area.

Whereas, sunlight during the afternoon is so harmful to people. 

The activities must be in shaded area or indoor area. 

However, terrace can still be used if they prefer outdoor area.

The school is actually in the middle of the city, Santiago. Where its bounded

by residential area and skyscrapers from both urban and university campus.

Plantation area of school is located head to north since Santiago is in the southern part

of Earth sphere, so the Sun rotation will be slightly in the north part of the sky.

Perspective view of school from southeast: Playground, sport field and multipurpose

area are in the front. Building is in the back and plantation area is behind the building.

Both terrace area and classroom can be used as a place to learn or study
